Brief history

• Built to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee (25 years on the throne in 1977).

• Triumph produced a limited run of 2,400 bikes:

  • 1,000 for the UK

  • 1,000 for the US

  • 400 for other export/Commonwealth markets

• Mechanically it’s a standard 750 T140V Bonneville; the differences are mainly cosmetic and commemorative:

  • Silver tank and sidecovers with red and blue striping, Blue seat with red piping

  • Special Silver Jubilee badges (“One of a Thousand”, “Limited Edition”, or “International Edition” depending on market) 

  • Extra chrome (engine covers, tail light housing, etc.) and painted/striped wheel centers. 

• Each bike was supplied with a numbered certificate of ownership, which is important for today’s collectors

The Jubilee marked the beginning of Triumph’s late-’70s/early-’80s run of special-edition Bonneville's before Meriden finally closed.

Mechanically, a Silver Jubilee is a regular mid-’70s Bonneville T140:

Engine & drivetrain

• Type: 4-stroke, air-cooled OHV parallel twin 

• Displacement: 744 cc (76 × 82 mm bore & stroke) 

• Valvetrain: 2 valves per cylinder, pushrod-operated

• Carburetors: Twin Amal Concentric carbs 

• Power (period figures – vary slightly by source):

  • ~49 hp @ 6,500 rpm (general T140 spec)
    

• Lubrication: Dry-sump with oil-in-frame reservoir 

• Transmission: 5-speed sequential gearbox, chain final drive 

• Starting: Kick-start only on these; electric start came later on other T140 variants.

Chassis & running gear

• Frame: Steel duplex cradle, with the frame used as the oil tank

• Front suspension: Telescopic fork, 19" spoked wheel

• Rear suspension: Twin shocks, 18" spoked wheel

• Brakes: Single disc front and rear (hydraulic) by the mid-’70s, which is what the Jubilee uses

• Quoted performance:

  • Top speed around 110–111 mph 

• Dry weight: approx. 395 lb (179 kg)
